It was bittersweet. We were in our 1.5 bedroom apartment in NYC. We had a 10-month-old and a 2-year-old. Rakiem and I sat on the hardwood floors of our living room on moving day imagining what life would be like as we embark on this new journey. The movers were shuffling around, grabbing the last few boxes and stacking them angrily, as if we were the ones that made them come an entire day late. We had no intentions of being on the road on Christmas day driving down to Atlanta, but thanks to our carefree moving company, they gave zero f**ks about our plans. smh.
A few months prior, we decided that we were no longer interested in living and raising our children in NY. We wanted a change of pace and all the events that were occurring in our lives at that time were screaming for a change as well. So there you have it, Rakiem put in his two weeks notice, I packed up the kiddos and we planned to hit the road before Christmas to ensure a perfect holiday surprise for my mom & dad. We ended up spending the entire Christmas day on the road, we ate Christmas dinner at an IHOP in Virginia, but it was cute!
Although some have said that we’ve made the worst decision ever, I beg to differ! Moving to a new state with a completely different lifestyle & culture has taught us so much. ATL and NY are WORLDS APART, but the experience thus far, has made me a better person, I am sure of it! We’ve definitely had our ups and downs, but we like to focus our energy on the better days so that we can manifest more!
Rakiem and I are both entrepreneurs, and that’s no easy road. So we take nothing for granted and are sincerely grateful to our awesome clients, and supportive family and friends through the years.
In the 6 years that we’ve been here, I’ve learned to always look forward, stay positive, be kind, consistent and patient. In due time, you will reap your rewards.
So from my now family yours, we wish you a Merry Christmas & a Very Prosperous & Rewarding New Year!
PS – this is our first family photo…smh!
